I just got a phone call back from Karen at Promark TV (works for
David Levine). They do indeed have funding in place for a season 2 of SAOJV. At
this point production of the second season is, according to Karen, "dependant on
ratings". Further, the ratings she is speaking of may or may not be SciFi
ratings exclusively, Promark may await the syndicated ratings when SAOJV hits
100+ markets in the fall. She stated that so far Promark are "very happy" with
the ratings on SciFi and, if they remain strong, the show "could" be back in
production as soon as September.
So what it boils down to is this, good
or excellent ratings on SciFi will more than likely make Promark commit to
season 2 sometime in the next few months. If the ratings falter they'll wait
until the syndicated launch to see if the show has a market to justify season 2
and production of said season wouldn't begin until 2002. If ratings are weak for
both SciFi and the syndicated release then season 2 dies a quick death.
Ultimately it is up to you guys who like the show to spread the word,
keep watching, write to the powers that be, bug magazines and other media
outlets for press coverage and help Promark to make their decision sooner than
later. Regardless of the fact that I have worked on SAOJV (briefly) I too am a
fan of the series and I would love for it to have a chance at more episodes.
